1. About Herbalion

Herbalion ("we," "our," or "the app") is an educational herbal encyclopedia available at herbalion.app. We provide general botanical and traditional-use information about medicinal plants. The app is operated by Jan Dobrovolný, Czech Republic.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Herbalion:

Account data: Email address and display name when you create an account or sign in with Google.
Usage data: Number of AI consultations per day (for rate limiting). This counter resets every 24 hours.
Saved data: Herb consultations and harvest planner entries you choose to save, stored in your account.
Location data: If you grant permission, approximate GPS location is used locally to show relevant herbs for your region. We do not store or transmit your precise location.
Device data: We do not collect device identifiers or browsing history.

3. How We Use Your Information

To provide and sync your saved consultations across devices.
To enforce daily consultation limits (free tier).
To show locally relevant herb information based on your region.
To send harvest reminder notifications if you enable them.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Advertising

Herbalion displays advertisements to support free access to the app. We use the following advertising services:

Google AdSense — Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show personalized ads based on your interests. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting google.com/settings/ads. For more information, see policies.google.com/privacy.
Affiliate links — Some links may be affiliate links (e.g. iHerb). If you purchase through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. All affiliate links are marked with "AD" or "sponsored".

We comply with Google AdSense program policies and EU/US advertising regulations.

5. Payments (Herbalion Premium)

If you subscribe to Herbalion Premium, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information. Stripe processes all payment data securely. See stripe.com/privacy for details. Premium status is stored as an expiry date linked to your account ID — no payment details are stored on our servers.

6. Third-Party Services

Herbalion uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Google Firebase — Authentication and cloud data storage. firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Anthropic Claude API (via Cloudflare Workers) — Powers AI herb consultations. Consultation text is sent to Anthropic for processing. anthropic.com/privacy

7. AI Consultation Data

When you use the AI consultation feature, the health information you enter (symptoms, medications, conditions) is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. We do not store your health intake data on our servers. Anthropic may retain API request data per their own privacy policy. Do not enter sensitive personal health information you are not comfortable sharing with a third-party AI service.

8. Cookies

Herbalion uses browser localStorage (not traditional cookies) to store your preferences, saved herbs, and settings locally on your device. Google AdSense may use cookies for advertising personalization as described in Section 4. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect app functionality.

9. Children's Privacy

Herbalion is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Data Retention & Deletion

Your saved consultations and account data are retained until you delete your account. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. EU/EEA residents have rights under GDPR. California residents have rights under CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
